⅓ green bell pepper, minced

½ large yellow onion, minced

⅔ c ketchup

½ teaspoon kosher salt

¼ teaspoon black pepper

3 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon brown sugar (or less, if you prefer)

¾ teaspoon chilli powder

dash of hot sauce (optional)

¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

1 teaspoon yellow mustard

1 tablespoon butter

1 teaspoon olive oil

Directions:

Place a large skillet on the stove and turn the heat to medium-high.

Add butter and allow it to melt, then add the oil and allow it to become hot.

Add the ground beef, then cook until crumbly and brown.

Remove the browned ground beef from the skillet into a colander to drain any accumulated fat.

In the same skillet, add the bell pepper and onion. Sauté until soft.

Add in the garlic and sauté until aromatic.

Put the browned beef back into the skillet and stir until well combined.

Add the tomato paste and stir until well blended. Cook for about a minute to remove the raw taste.

Add water, mustard, chilli powder, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Stir until well blended.

Cook for about 15 minutes or until the texture becomes thick.

Remove from the skillet and serve immediately with toasted buns.

Serve hot and enjoy!

Note:

Place any leftovers in an airtight container, then place them inside the freezer. They can last up to 4 months.
